April Newsletter

Posted on Wed April 24, 2019 in Newsletter No 1.

Here at The Anchorage Wilderness we are soaking up the last rays of sunshine before the autumn leaves start falling. The National Nature Reserve lying just on the other side of the peaceful Touw River is still brilliantly bright and green in the cloudless sunny sky that came to surprise us this morning. As the water slowly swishes against the jetty, I wonder if we can stretch out the summer sunshine for just a couple of more weeks.

I can still remember the golden-brown skins lying next to the pool side on the comfy loungers with an icy drink in a reachable spot in the shade. Now we’re preparing for autumn and lovely cosy cuddle ups in front of the fire. Isn’t a little sunshine the best medicine though!  Luckily in Wilderness it’s never really far away.

A lot has been happening and we want to share our recent news with you. Please feel free to share any news with us as well.

In March we saw 276 guests come through our doors and we made great new friends and added even more friendly faces to The Anchorage Family.

It is our ultimate goal to take such good care of you while you visit that you will feel like you’re in a 5* Boutique Hotel in Paradise – OR EVEN BETTER, that you would feel like you are HOME!

What's new you ask?

The Rooftop Terrace:

If you thought the view was great from the lounge and poolside, then, the roof terrace will blow your mind.  You can see all the way down to the Wilderness Village and it’s the best place to watch the sunset as it dips in behind the Kaaimans pass.  Stunning refuge to enjoy a glass of wine with your love & have lots of laughter and fun with friends.

Afternoon Teas:

When was the last time you had a proper traditional afternoon tea?  Our delicious sandwiches and quiches, followed by delectable home-made scones with strawberry preserved & cream and topped off with sweet cakes and pastries, is no small thing and we’ve definitely earned our bragging rights with this add-on to the guest house.

Shop:

From confectionary treats, to all the must-have essentials or just “nice-to-have” items, we’ve added on a shop too that can quench the retail-therapy-thirst and give you a beautiful reminder to take home with you.

We try to stock things that are unique but still relevant to what you might need and want.

This is a great opportunity to give us feedback as to which items you are on the lookout for while you’re on vacation or want to buy as gifts and spoils.

Staff:

2 new faces have joined us, and they’re not just another pretty face. So let me introduce our team

  • Veronica Bessie is our Goldie Oldie and she has been with us since we opened our doors.  A better housekeeper can not be found anywhere.  She is a star.
I took over as our Guest House Manager just before the season really hit.
  • Merci Jantjies is our new assistants in the house and thanks to her it is now an easier task to keep your rooms spotless and your breakfasts on the dollar.

We need your help: We’ve got some free space and we’re thinking of converting it into a chill-chamber where you can have a massage, a facial, a magical manicure (or pedicure) or for the ladies, where you can get the essentials waxed.

Is this something you would take advantage of? Yay? Or Nay?

If YES. . . . What type of treatments would you want to do here?  Please open the floodgates of ideas and answers – we really need your input. [email protected]

You asked.  We Listened:  Many of you are travelling from one place to the next and while we all enjoy a beautifully prepared meal from the experts, sometimes after spending the day in the car, on the road, all you really want is a shower, baggy pants and comfort food.  SO, as of March we have a light snack menu from which you can pick your favourite toasty, pizza in the oven, a hearty bowl of warm soup and other small, but yummy soul snacks.

What type of snack would you like to see on this menu?  Tell us – we can make it happen.

Service with a smile:

Breakfast service:

Don’t feel like getting up and dressing up.  You don’t have to.  Stay in your pj’s, stay in bed, or have breakfast on your own private balcony. You don’t need to come to the breakfast, we’ll bring the breakfast to you.

Restaurant bookings:

How would you know what’s hot and what’s not?  Tell us if you like seafood, steak, Italian pizzas/pastas or curries the best and we’ll help you find the best fit of place to go and even use our local charm to help you reserve a table.

Activities:

There is something for everyone.  Whether you love the rush of adrenalin, want to do something fun or just take it easy.  We can send you info before you get here and once again, we can create a whole schedule of activities for you.  All you have to do is ask.

Extend your check-out time:

Who doesn’t love to stay under the feathers for a couple minutes longer when the cold comes knocking?  Ask us if it’s possible to extend your check-out time.  We hate goodbye’s, so if we CAN keep you here for a little longer. . .

We need your help: We’ve got some free space and we’re thinking of converting it into a chill-chamber where you can have a massage, a facial, a magical manicure (or pedicure) or for the ladies, where you can get the essentials waxed.

Is this something you would take advantage of? Yes? Or No?  If YES. . . . What type of treatments would you want to do here?
